The Winter of 2013

We are now entering the month of December.  The final weekend of the Texas Renaissance Festival has come and gone.  Coming up will be Dickens on the Strand, Christmas, New Years and finally Sherwood.

The Texas Renaissance Festival is the transition from Summer to Fall and Fall to Winter, all in one faire season.  This year, the Clan only camped during the opening weekend and the closing weekend.  Neither weekend had a very strong showing of our clan members.

Opening weekend, the weather was terrible.  When it wasn't hot and humid, it was pouring buckets.  As always seems to happen when these late summer fronts come through, we lose a tent.  This year we lost a popup tent provided by the Cook clan as our kitchen tent.  The canopy had begun collecting water, and with no one around to rectify the problem, the frame began to strain.  Fortunately, Captain Cook returned in time to drain the water before the frame collapsed, however it was at the sacrifice of the canopy.

Most of us drowned rats left early on Sunday to go home and dry our bones.

Closing weekend was the complete opposite of opening weekend.  It was much cooler and the skies stayed relatively clear.  It was great faire weather for the Thanksgiving holiday and the last weekend of the festival.  We wouldn't have wanted to ask for better.

The weekend was filled with great food (even with the great Turkey Fail of 2013) and great comaraderie.  Clan Procrastination came to be, out of a desire to bring together a group of friends, and create our own little niche in the Ren Faire community.  This weekend allowed some of those friends to come together and enjoy each other's company.  That is why we do what we do.

Now with TRF behind us, it is time to start looking forward to Galveston's "Dickens on the Strand", Christmas, New Years and finally the Sherwood Forest Faire.  SWFF begins in February of 2014.  That's right, 2014 is just a few short weeks away. SWFF will see us through Winter, and it will then usher us into Spring.

The clan will be meeting in January to complete some final camp site chores.  The current move in date is January 17 to 19.  We hope to see many of our crewmates and friends in the forest this season.

If all goes well, we should be welcoming back our fellow crewmate Hard Tack who will be visiting SWFF for the first time.  H.T. has been patrolling the waters off of Bahrain with the U.S. Coast Guard.  We all look forward to having H.T. in camp this year and his presence means that we will be able to hold yet another initiation celebration.  Due to his travels, H.T. has missed both initiations.  Hard Tack, prepare Ye to walk the plank.

All are of course invited to the initiation and we hope that many of our fellow crew will be on hand to welcome H.T. officially in to the clan.

That will wrap up this letter.  If you are finding us for the first time, we welcome you to the cyber home of Clan Procrastination.  For more information, please email us at pirates@procrastinatingpirates.com.  You may also sign up for our newsletter from the front page of our site.  And of course, you can visit with us on the deck of the Procrastinator at the TRF and the SWFF campgrounds.
